Saturday November 1st was the first time of me visiting an open programme like BARCAMP. The Programme started at 9:00am and close some few minutes pass 5:00pm
HOW DID I GET TO HEAR OF THE PROGRAMME? I’ll say I got to hear about it through a friend (Enoch Nyamador) during one of our normal conversations. He sent me a mail containing a link for me to register.
My friend, Tsevi Bright, and I departed from the hostel around quarter to 11:00 am. on arrival at where the programme was taking place i.e COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AUDITORIUM,KNUST, the programme has long started with the first agendum on the agenda list still on-going which is the speed-mentoring section.
SPEED-MENTORING SECTION
This is the section of the programme in which individuals are to have one-one chat with Mentors with respect to their field of interest.there were mentors from various fields of work; IT, health, business entrepreneurship, etc. And I first had the chance to talk with a young lady who’s a software engineer. She told me about the various programming languages, especially java, python and php, which were my languages of interest though I didn’t fully understood what she talked about,I enjoyed it a lil. there was this medical doctor who is also a software engineer that I was so eager to talk with buh I never had the chance to. But I had the opportunity to talk with a man from Denmark who has his own IT company. I went to him purposely to talk more IT but he spent the whole time talking about entrepreneurship, but I enjoyed it though.
After the speed mentoring section, we went for break and to our we were serve with snacks i.e SOBOLO with PLANTAIN CHIPS. we went for break and to our we were serve with snacks i.e SOBOLO with PLANTAIN CHIPS. Whiles we were taking the snacks we crack jokes catch some with memories back in SHS.
Soon the break was over and the second
section started. Before the breakout section begins we were given talk on how BAR-CAMP came to existence, the history of it etc. The breakout section was
divided into two, one before lunch and another after lunch. during the first section I join the Google group where a guy buy by
name JESE who is a GSA(Google student ambassador) came to talk with us about Google
and the use of Google tools. He then ask us
for interested people to join the
Google club on campus. just after this section we had lunch.
During lunch I was given ‘wakye’ with fried beef meat and ‘Alvaro’ soft drink, but some of my friends were given fried rice
with chicken which I would have prefer to take. i was able to finish the drink
but not the ‘wakye’.
Thereafter the second breakout out section begins ,I join
the Wikipedia group, where my friend Enoch gave a talk on how Wikipedia gets
its information and how we as individuals can contribute towards Wikipedia to
achieve its aim and other open source groups
Before we
finally close some few individuals were selected from the various breakout
section groups to give a summary of what
went on in their groups. We made some new friends exchange contacts we finally
took some groups pictures and……………………………………………………………...i would like to go for
such programme another time because I REALY LEARNT A LOT
